Pirates of Penzance Auditions, Sunday 28 February 2021

Wellington Light Opera will be auditioning 1pm-4pm on Sunday 28 February 2021 at Te Whaea for principals and ensemble for the October Pirates of Penzance season.  If you’re a capable singer, enjoy acting and are available for rehearsals and all performance dates we want to hear from you.

You can book your audition (5 minutes for chorus, or 10 minutes if you are seeking a principal role) via this form.

We would like you to sing a short song or aria in English – either by Gilbert and Sullivan or in a similar style.  The audition panel will comprise musical director Michael Vinten, director Ali Hodge, and production manager Jean Hulbert. There will be a pianist to accompany you.

If you really can’t make Sunday 28 February, let us know (contact@wellingtonlightopera.nz) and we’ll look for an alternative.

Important notes about who does and doesn’t need to audition…

  1. Anyone who was auditioned by Michael and Allie at the start of 2020 and was invited to do one of the 2020 seasons does not need to audition again.  Likewise for anyone who performed in Trial by Jury.  Please just email us and let us know that you are interested in doing Pirates 2021 via the contact@wellingtonlightopera.nz email address.
  2. Anyone who auditioned last year but was not cast in a show, should audition again if they would like to do Pirates 2021.
  3. Anyone who was cast in a chorus role last year and who would like to be considered for a principal role, should audition again.
  4. People who were cast in the deferred May 2020 version of Pirates have already been approached and invited to automatically join our rescheduled 2021 season of Pirates.
